Veteran's plates for cars

On 10 November 2005, the Quebec government announced the following :

Quebec Premier, Jean Charest, is proud to announce, along with the minister of Transport and minister responsible

for the Capitale-Nationale region, Michel Després, that the Quebec government will offer veterans an exclusive l

icense plate, starting January 1st 2006.

«In so doing, the Quebec government wishes to recognize all those Quebec men and women who served to defend t

he values that govern our every day lives», said the Premier of Quebec.

«This commemorative license plate, exclusive to veterans, will be identical to the plate already offered to Quebecers

but a red and black poppy will be added in the center of the plate», said the minister of Transport, who asked the

Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec to take the necessary measures to offer this new plate to Quebec veterans.

This license plate will be offered to all those who meet the eligibility requirements set out by the Royal Canadian

Legion. The Premier added that this announcement, the day before Remembrance Day 2005, marks in a unique

way the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

The Société d’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) has already started producing the new plates for veterans in

answer to the minister of Transport’s request. Branch 260 of the Royal Canadian Legion, that was in charge of this

endeavour, works in cooperation with the SAAQ and will pursue its efforts to bring this project to full completion.

The Branch will sbe receiving, a brochure / guide to «request eligibility certification for veterans’ license plates».

Since April 2009, the SAAQ offers veterans who own a motorcycle, the new distinct license plate.

As soon as a veteran is notified that he or she must pay for a license plate renewal, for a vehicule plate number

that is of the following types (ABC 123 or 123 ABC or 100 H 100), a veteran’s eligibility request form must be sent

to the Royal Canadian Legion, Quebec Command, for both the car and motorcycle license plates. Quebec Command

will confirm the veteran’s eligibility and forward the request to the SAAQ. SAAQ will then proceed in mailing, at the v

eteran’s home address, the requested license plate.
